To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, the country has been closed for almost seven weeks. But now parts of existing restrictions will be eased, no matter how far they are.
Relief means, among other things, that the British are allowed to leave their homes to a greater extent. Among other things, people will train outdoors more than once a day. In addition, those who cannot work from home will be able to return to their workplaces, provided that the social distance recommendations are respected.
Johnson will also introduce a five-degree warning system to classify the spread of infection in different areas. The scale ranges from green to red, where red means the active spread of the infection.
The system is intended to make it easier for UK authorities to act quickly in case the virus spreads in a second wave. Similar systems have been used in previous restrictions reductions in France and India, among others.
Boris Johnson, however, calls for continued caution.
– Mountaineers often say that the way down is the most dangerous, because it is when you exceed yourself and make mistakes, continues.
So far, the UK has reported more than 210,000 cases of infection and more than 31,000 deaths. It is the second highest death toll in the world, after the United States (with more than 78,000 deaths), which, however, has a population five times higher.
