The message was not a shock in any way. Henrik Lundqvist was bought earlier this week in his final year of contract with the New York Rangers. This after being with the club for 15 years, and he has become one of the best Rangers players of all time.
Few players have been as important to Rangers as Henrik Lundqvist and we are so grateful for all that he has done for our organization. During his 15 years at the club, he not only established himself as one of the best goalkeepers to ever play, but he has also been one of the toughest competitive people in hockey and the most effective ambassador. He will always be a part of the Rangers family, “New York Rangers president James L. Dolan said in a news release.

Now Rangers club president John Davidson tells the New York Post about the difficult decision.
– We wanted to do the right thing for Henrik. We work together with Henrik and his representatives. We had some discussions and came to the conclusion that this was the right time to end for several reasons. One was that Henrik could break free and figure out what he wanted to do, he explains.
Davidson does not deny that there was an economic aspect to everything, as even faithful servant Marc Staal was traded to the Detroit Red Wings just days before Lundqvist’s decision was announced.
– There are considerations about the salary cap. There will be young players, we are trying to build a winning team, which will take some time. We have come a long way, but we are not close yet. Then everything comes into play. Best of all, Henrik was very honest and we were very honest. And he handled everything gracefully, Davidson says.
The club president also chooses to pay tribute to Lundqvist for his professionalism on the team.
– Henrik cares about the Rangers, himself and their future. We had excellent conversations. We as a club must function, and I suppose in business it is what it is many times, Davidson tells the New York Post.
