The Swedish crown’s strategy has been the subject of debate during the fall and winter, when the Swedish Public Health Agency and the government stepped up measures in several steps.
Restaurant opening hours have been limited, at the same time that the Riksdag passed a law against a pandemic and oral protection recommendations were introduced.
But former state epidemiologist Johan Giesecke believes that the country has acted correctly and that the strategy has been consistent.
– Several countries have made it confusing for the population. “What applies today? Can I go out to buy food and visit a restaurant?” Nyheter Södertälje tells SVT.
Doubtful if we can get back to normal
Johan Giesecke tells SVT that he believes Sweden could have been better at protecting its senior citizens.
– It was more difficult than we think, neither the Public Health Agency nor the politicians.
– For example, you could have tried more than you did, both users and staff a little more regularly. It probably would have helped a lot. Now there were no opportunities for it at the beginning of the pandemic.
He is not sure if things will stay the same after the shots.
– I’m not sure if we can ever go back to how life was before. The virus will remain. It is not possible to eradicate it from the earth’s surface.
