President Joe Biden signed his first presidential orders Wednesday night.

Among the 17 decisions is that the United States rejoins the WHO and the Paris Agreement.

– There is no better day to start than today, said Biden.

Just hours after being sworn in as president, Joe Biden began doing what he promised during the election campaign: getting on the hill. His first decision as president was primarily due to changes in Donald Trump’s political course.

– We will need legislation on many things, Biden said on the spot at the White House.

First decision: mouth guard

Beside him, on the desk in the Oval Room, he had a large pile of 17 different decisions that he himself called “bold.”

“My thinking is that with the situation in the nation today, there is no time to lose,” Biden said.

Here are the 17 decisions, with a check mark of whether they are new or restorative of Trump’s policies:

Mouth guard (new)

Valid for 100 days in federal buildings, on public transportation, and for all government employees. The order will also, with an appeal to US residents, wear a mask.

Return to WHO (reboot)

The United States rejoins the World Health Organization following Trump’s decision to resign this spring. Trump considered that the United States paid too high a tariff and that the WHO “kept China’s back” around the pandemic. Already on Thursday, the United States infection control nest, Anthony Fauci, will participate in a video meeting with the WHO as a representative of the United States.

Paris Agreement (restorer)

The United States re-enters the Paris Agreement, a process that takes 30 days. The agreement was drawn up in 2015 to curb global warming. In June 2017, the United States withdrew from the agreement following a decision by Donald Trump.

Entry ban abolished for Muslims (restaurateurs)

In January 2017, Donald Trump introduced the criticized travel ban for citizens of Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen. As recently as 2020, new countries were added to the list. Biden is now lifting this ban.

Stop the wall (restart)

Biden stops the continued construction of border walls against Mexico by abolishing the national emergency call that Trump used as funding.

Covid Coordinator (new)

An authority for global health security is restored and a covid coordinator with national responsibility for, among other things, vaccine deliveries and testing is installed. The coordinator reports directly to Biden.

Eviction ban (new)

Congress decided in 2020 a ban on evictions, where rent or mortgages cannot be paid due to the pandemic crisis, now Biden wants the ban extended to start with two months until March 31.

Student Loan Repayment Break (New)

Many students suffer financially during the pandemic. The interruption of student loan repayments is now extended until September 30.

Oil line stopped (reset)

The controversial Keystone XL pipeline between Canada and the United States comes to a halt, as is all oil and gas extraction in national parks. These decisions mark the new green course that Biden has promised voters and mean that more than 100 previous presidential decisions will be overturned or revised.

Discrimination stopped (restorer)

Biden requires all federal authorities and institutions to develop a plan to reduce discrimination based on nationality and gender. In addition, the commission criticized by Trump would be halted, preventing schools from teaching “without patriotism” about the history of slavery.

Paperless counts (resets)

Undocumented residents must be re-included in official population statistics. Thus, Biden cancels Donald Trump’s order from the summer of 2020.

Greater protection for LGBTQ people (new)

The order calls for measures against discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation in the workplace.

Residence permit for “dreamers” (new)

Biden is asking Congress to decide on a permanent residence permit for the nearly one million Americans who came to the United States illegally as children.

Eject stop (restart)

Biden removes one of Trump’s first presidential orders of priority deportation for the roughly 11 million immigrants who are in the United States illegally.

Residence permit for Liberians (new)

Already in 2007, around 10,000 refugees from Liberia received an extraordinary residence permit on the orders of then-President George W. Bush. The decision was valid until January 10, 2021, but now Biden is extending it until June 30, 2022.

Stop Trump’s Last Minute Decision (Restorer)

All new rules and directives approved by the Trump administration at the end of the term are held up for review by the new regime. This work was carried out by the new White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, who according to PBS sent a memorandum to the relevant authorities.

New (new) ethical doctrine

All new employees to Biden’s management must sign an ethics contract. The decision prohibits, among other things, the payment of parachutes and bonuses from previous employers. Additionally, a one-year waiting period is required before an employee can leave management and become a lobbyist.

Biden: “There is no time to waste”

Later Wednesday night, Biden held a digital installation ceremony for new staff at the White House. Employees participated remotely and appeared on various television screens. They received a strong warning from their new boss: Treat each other with dignity and respect, or you will lose your job.

– If I hear you treat a colleague without respect or speak ill of someone, I promise that I will fire you immediately. This is something that has been absent for the past four years, Biden said.
