SEK 3 million in income taxes, the couple paid Biden in 2019, according to the couple’s tax return now released.
The figures will be released hours before the next debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in Cleveland, USA.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his partner Jill Biden paid the equivalent of more than SEK 3 million in income taxes in 2019. This is shown on the couple’s tax return, which has now been published.
During the year, the couple had a total income of just under 9 million crowns, 3 million of these were paid in income tax and just over half a million of this tax was returned to the couple in tax refunds.
In connection with the release of the Biden couple’s tax return, Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris also released her tax return.
Low tax alterations
The figures are announced hours before the next debate in Cleveland against rival candidate Donald Trump, whose income tax has been in the spotlight following an article in the New York Times.
According to the newspaper, the president paid $ 750, equivalent to 7,000 Swedish crowns, in federal income tax for 2016 and 2017, that is, the year he was elected president and his first year in the White House. For the 10 years leading up to Trump’s election, he didn’t pay a penny in federal income taxes, according to the newspaper.
Post or “keep your mouth shut”
The president himself has refused to publish his tax return, but now pressure is mounting from a democratic point of view to do so.
“This is a historic level of transparency that aims to give the American people faith in their leaders and that they live up to their expectations and not just their own watermarks,” said Joe Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate. Bedingfield, after the announcement of the Biden couple.
“Mr. President, publish your tax return or keep quiet,” continues Kate Bedingfield.
