Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election. They are now one step closer to the White House. Tuesday was a day called Safe Harbor in the US: When the day expires, the deadline expires.
The day is named after a federal law that says Congress must recognize and count the electoral votes of the states that have resolved their possible disputes and recalculations, and where the results have been certified.
All except Hawaii certified
All states except Hawaii have certified, which should mean Joe Biden, by a margin, has approved the required 270 electoral votes. But there’s a little problem. The legal process is not completely over, but the slim prospects of Trump winning one diminish significantly after the deadline, according to experts.
“With each passing day, especially when we pass Safe Harbor, the opportunity to change the results is less and less,” Rebecca Green, an election law expert, told USA Today.
“Without credible evidence that there would be a problem, it is less and less likely that something could alter what is to come under state and federal laws,” he continues.
Some demands remain
At this time, some state lawsuits are still active in Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. There are also three federal targets, two in Wisconsin and one in Arizona, that are still alive. On Tuesday, Texas state prosecutors also sued Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia and Michigan in HD for their handling of the election. The chances that Trump and his allies will succeed in either lawsuit are slim.
