Writer and debater Cissi Wallin’s book, “All That Was Mine,” deals with the background to her grand indictment in 2017. After Atlas Publishing, which was planning to publish the book for the first time, broke off cooperation with Wallin after After a press freedom expert evaluated the script, Cissi Wallin had the book published on her own.
Now JK has decided to initiate a preliminary investigation into whether Wallin committed gross slander in the book, this after receiving a report. For DN, JK confirms that it is the journalist Fredrik Virtanen who is behind the report, through his lawyer.
The investigation that has been carried out so far gives, according to JK, reasons to suppose that “the crime of freedom of the press has been flagrantly slandered through the denounced publication.” Deputy Chief Prosecutor Bengt Åsbäck has been tasked with leading the preliminary investigation which, when sought by DN, forwards all questions to JK.
– It is true that I made the decision to initiate a preliminary investigation. The main reason for this is that an exam has already been done. When there is now a new publication in book form, it is reasonable that the public will also see it, says Chancellor of Justice Mari Heidenborg.
When the preliminary investigation is complete, it is up to JK to decide whether or not to prosecute.
Cissi Wallin has previously said in the media that she is well aware that the book may result in further criminal suspicions against her.
Cissi Wallin was convicted at the end of 2019 in the Stockholm District Court for gross defamation of journalist Fredrik Virtanen. The penalty was a suspended sentence and compensation of SEK 90,000. The verdict has been appealed to the Court of Appeal.
DN looks for Cissi Wallin.
