Last week Jimmie Åkesson appeared at the Riksdag coughing and snoring.

Tonight he was pressed for symptoms on SVT’s “Aktuellt” – notably sweaty.

– I tried on last Friday but still have not received an answer, says the leader of SD.

Jimmie Åkesson stayed home since the Riksdag opened last week because he had a cold. But the next day, he appeared at the first party leaders debate this year.

Åkesson coughed and snorted while standing on the podium, something that led to a heated debate over whether it was appropriate for him to come to work with symptoms.

Pressed on the symptoms

On Tuesday night, the SD frontman was a guest on “Aktuellt” for a longer interview. The host then addressed the criticism that followed the parliamentary debate.

However, Jimmie Åkesson does not think he made any mistakes that he went to work, and he referred to the recommendations of the Swedish Public Health Agency.

– If you have had symptoms for seven days and have had no fever for two, you can go to work even if you still have a dry cough. And I did it.

– You don’t say anything about not being able to go to work if you don’t feel sick. And I didn’t feel bad.

The party leader was also asked why he had not been tested. Åkesson said he hadn’t had time before, but did a test last Friday.

– I tried on last Friday but still haven’t received a response. It would take 48 hours, but it hasn’t, she says.

News: “Surprise for us too”

During the hearing, Jimmie Åkesson was noticeably sweaty on his forehead, something Aktuellt editor Lars Eisjö also noticed.

– Yes, I saw it too. But it’s hot in the studio, I can’t say it’s due to illness, Lars Eisjö tells Aftonbladet.

Weren’t you worried about having him in the studio, considering he snorted last week?

– I trust that if he had been ill he would not have come to the study. We also asked questions about it, says Lars Eisjö, adding that it is part of SVT’s rules for presenters and guests to keep their distance and not hold hands.

He says in the program that he has not yet received a response to his coronate test, what do you think about it?

– It was also a surprise for us. But I trust you wouldn’t have come if you had been feeling ill.
