Dejan Kulusevski was shocked after not having a chance against France.

Now Janne Andersson and the player have cleared the air.

– I have no problem with the core of what he said. So maybe he expressed something a little too strong in context, says the league captain.

Dejan Kulusevski only managed 20 minutes against France in the Nations League and said after the match that he was surprised he was not allowed to start.

The team has also been criticized, among others, by Zlatan Ibrahimovic who went on the hard attack against Janne Andersson.

However, the league captain and Kulusevski have spoken out about the situation.

– Dejan and I have talked today. I have no problem with the essence of what he said. So maybe he was expressing something a little too strong in context when he said shock and things that made headlines. He himself said that he may have expressed himself too strongly, he says and continues:

– But it is investigated and there are no strange things, when we finished he went out and did a great training.

Starts against Portugal

Andersson also explained why Kulusevski did not have the opportunity from the beginning.

– We met ten months ago and soccer is a game of interaction. Dejan has only been in one collection and to get in from the beginning, I felt like I wanted to bet on those who have been with a little more to more easily find their way back to our way of playing in our first match. But Dejan has done very well and we totally agree, so we can put it aside.

However, it looks like Kulusevski will take a place in the starting lineup against Portugal on Tuesday. Andersson was asked if he felt pressure to remove Kulusevski after last day’s debate and then replied that he had already had it ready for a long time.

– I’m very depressurized. If I had to send a scout to my room, I have a flip chart with the Portuguese line-up from Tuesday or Wednesday. It will be at least as interesting a team as yesterday. Now we will not prevent any team selection, but I am in a good position in those cases, we can say.

“Bigger than it is”

John Guidetti was also asked about the Kulusevski debate and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s proposal at Sunday’s press conference.

– I think it’s gotten a little bigger than it is. Dejan has entered well and I understand how he is as a person. He’s a great guy. Everyone likes him, but at the same time he’s new to the team and it’s just a matter of looking at any player, it takes a while to get into the team. But his time will come, he says and continues:

– Your words (Zlatan’s) must represent you. Everyone has the right to have an opinion. I think Janne’s results have been fantastic. Sweden in the quarterfinals of the World Cup is fantastically good. A Sweden that beats Italy, Holland and is the only nation that beats France when it is proclaimed world champion has done a good job.

Guidetti also pointed out that it is not always possible to select the best players at each position.

– There is much work to be done in the field. You have to get the players to fit in and work as a team. We cannot look man-man in all positions. This is where the Swedish people and the media need to understand that it is about building a team and that it takes some time to build it together.

– Those who have played have acted, they have taken us to the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
