The United States Senate voted to approve Janet Yellen as the new United States Secretary of the Treasury. The 74-year-old economist will be the country’s first woman in office.
Yellen was also previously the first woman to lead the US Federal Reserve, and is expected to play a key role in shaping the economic policies of the new administration of President Joe Biden.
At the same time, Antony Blinken has taken another step towards the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, being approved by 15 votes to 3 by the Senate International Relations Committee.
It is expected to receive a green light from the Senate soon.
