For a few hours on Easter Eve it seemed that the death toll from the coronavirus in the US USA Exceeded that of Italy.
But then, the official figures for Italy were released on Saturday afternoon and Italy, with 19,468 coronary heart deaths reported, again became the country in the world where most people are reported to have lost their lives as a result of the virus.
According to the American Johns Hopkins University compilation, at the same time, 18,860 Americans had died after becoming ill with the viral disease covid-19.
The figures really don’t say much because Italy has more than 60 million inhabitants and the United States 328 million. Furthermore, countries are likely to be at different stages of the effects of the pandemic and management and the statistics of the authorities may also differ.
The number of deaths recorded as a result of the virus in the last 24 hours in Italy is 619, according to the Civil Protection Institute, which is responsible for the country’s official statistics.
