Danish presenter Sofie Linde, 30, told during a televised comedy gala how she has been sexually harassed over the years in the world of television. She described a specific event from when she was 18 years old and at the Danmark Radio Christmas party.
– Then this great television star comes up to me, grabs me by the arm and says “if you don’t come out to suck me, I’ll ruin you and your career.”
The declaration received enormous attention and created a huge wave in Denmark. 1,615 women in the television industry have signed a petition for better conditions and to support Sofie Linde.
Now, three weeks after it all started, he talks about the dizzying moment after the TV show.
– My feeling is clearly that it has been worth it, he tells DR.
But you really want the focus to move away from your own history and focus on the structural problem.
“I really try to make sure this is not still about me and my thoughts,” he says.
– In fact, we have managed to make this an issue that is taken seriously and hopefully something can be done about it, which will make a difference for many women.
The industry needs help
On Friday, Sofie Linde, along with several other women in the industry, met with Denmark’s Minister for Gender Equality, Mogens Jensen.
After the meeting, Jensen said he will review how the law can be used to eliminate sexual harassment from the workplace.
“Each boss has a responsibility to ensure that sexual harassment is reported in the workplace and that sexist culture is not accepted,” he told Ritzau.
Sofie Linde believes that the television industry has a long way to go.
– All managers have said they admit they have blind spots and promise to wear work gloves, but I think blind spots mean they can’t do enough to change the culture, he says on the “Presselogen” show. and TV2.
She suggests that the television industry needs outside help to address the problems that all women have witnessed.
– Maybe it has already gone wrong too many times. If there was a trust before, it’s gone.
