– I think it would be a total hole in the head to leave half the labor market, which we should legislate for only half the labor market, says the president of LO, Susanna Gideonsson. So I think, how do you function as a politician?
LO board recently rejected the agreement on labor law that they negotiated together with the white-collar cartel PTK and the Confederation of Swedish Companies.
The government, which has an agreement with the Center Party and the Liberals to change the labor legislation, will draft a new law on the agreement between PTK and the Confederation of Swedish Companies.
How much influence LO can beat the law not meet Susanna Gideonsson today. I would prefer to have further negotiations with the Swedish Business Confederation.
– We continue to think that the best thing would be if we could do it in an agreement directly with our counterpart, instead of the politics getting in the way and where we run the risk that for each new legislature it changes here and there. Because our agreements are long-term and lasting, made by those who really know how it works in the workplace. So we continue to prefer that path.
Susanna Gideonsson says that LO has not yet taken any initiative for new negotiations, but also believes that employers want to negotiate with LO:
– I think that both the Confederation of Swedish Companies and we will always be prepared to negotiate things. Also organizations, like unions, negotiate different things on a daily basis. Right now it is a contract move. So do employers’ unions. We are used to solving problems through negotiation.
