“It could be a bus or a virus”

The increasing spread of covid-19 is currently affecting all different age groups, Region Skåne writes in a press release. But the increase is greater in the 19-49 age group.

The number of people hospitalized has also increased recently. Currently, 26 patients affected by Covid-19 receive medical care, four of them in intensive care units.

– We have a serious situation with the spread of infection throughout society. To stop this, we must stop development together. We should keep our distance, wash our hands frequently, and stay home when we are sick. We also need to think more about how we can help reduce the spread of infection when, for example, we walk into a store, board a bus or call a meeting at the workplace, says Eva Melander, an infection control doctor in Skåne.

Last Friday, more than 70 people from Skåne fell ill with covid-19. The same number now stands at some 169 new people affected, every day.

The call: No mischief or candy

At the same time, many people from Skåne will receive the autumn license next week, in parallel with Halloween and Halloween which are celebrated in different ways.

But the call from the Skåne Region is strong. Children and adults alike should avoid going to festivities and everyone is also encouraged to skip meetings with people they normally do not know.

– This year you simply have to skip “mischief or sweets” otherwise there is a risk that it is “mischief or virus”. It’s important to try to find other creative solutions to keep feeling like we celebrate both fall break and holidays, says Eva Melander.

Region Skåne also announces that the infection tracking unit is currently under heavy load due to the increasing spread of covid-19.
