Isam, 55, was jogging on the treadmill when he suddenly collapsed. They threw him back against a beam in the wall, hit him on the head and died.
Now her family wants to urge gym visitors to sound the alarm if exercise machines are placed in dangerous places.
– The treadmill was 12 inches from the wall, my uncle would have lived today if the gym had done risk assessments, says Amanda.
– We lost our uncle last Monday. He’s a great-grandfather and was only 55, says Amanda, 21, and her cousin Sebastian, 29.
Isam often worked out at the Nordic Wellness gym in Älvängen. On Monday at 11 o’clock he collapsed while running on the treadmill. Doctors later told the family that he had broken a blood vessel in his chest, that he passed out and hit his head with full force on the beam behind him, something SVT Väst was the first of. in counting.
A large rescue operation was launched and he was airlifted by ambulance helicopter to Sahlgrenska, where he was placed on a respirator.
But the doctors couldn’t save his life and Isam died that same night.
– It was not possible to operate on his chest because he had such a serious head injury. And it was not possible to repair the head injury because the central vessel in the chest was broken, says nephew Sebastián.
– According to the doctors, it was the bleeding in the brain that caused his death. If it had just been the container, they could have fixed it, says Isam’s niece, Amanda.

The treadmill is now like this after the accident. According to the family, Nordic Wellness had said they had moved the treadmill forward.
The family wants to warn others.
The family has reported the gym to the police. But now the family also wants to warn other gym visitors.
– It is such a tragic accident but we have to tell and report it, it must not happen again, says Amanda.
According to the two who visited the gym, the treadmill was about 12 inches from the wall where a steel beam also protrudes.
He and Isam’s other family believe that the result would likely have been different if a risk analysis had been performed in the gym and the tape had not been placed directly against the wall.
– What also annoys me is that after the accident they dried their blood and then continued driving as usual. Why didn’t they block? They should have stopped and said “there has been an accident here and now we will investigate how and why it could have happened in our gym”, Sebastian thinks.

Amanda, 21, now wants to warn other gym visitors.
– It’s a tragic accident, anyone could have fallen. Now three children have lost their father. The death of our uncle should not be in vain, we hope that by telling him maybe we can save someone else in the future, says Amanda.
Magnus Wilhelmsson, CEO of the Nordic Wellness chain, responds to Aftonbladet in a text message:
“I don’t know what to add to this terrible event other than respect and regret for the family. Incredibly sad and you think of the relatives. The incident is under investigation and that is good. “
