– We will certainly respond to the martyrdom of our scientist, Hassan Rouhani said at the televised government meeting, but first pointed out that one should not be “tricked into a trap”, but respond in due time.

Rouhani pointed to Israel as responsible for the act, and both military and religious leaders of the country have promised revenge.

Israel has not commented on the incident.

It was on Friday afternoon that Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was identified by the West as the main responsible for the attempts to develop nuclear weapons, was killed in an attack on the car in which he was traveling, 70 kilometers from Tehran.

According to information from Iran, the car was bombed and shelled by assassins.

Fakhrizadeh was airlifted to a hospital, where he died, according to an Iranian semi-state news agency. His bodyguards were also shot in the attack.

Rouhani also said in a statement earlier Saturday that Fakhrizadeh’s death would not slow down “Iran’s nuclear work,” Reuters wrote.

The United States has also not commented on the killing.

At least four Iranian scientists he was assassinated between 2010 and 2012 in what Iran calls an “assassination program as a method of sabotaging Iran’s nuclear program.”

Iran has consistently denied trying to develop nuclear weapons.
