It was Deputy Chancellor of Justice John Demers who made the statement against North Korea in connection with a major hack attack recently revealed. The three hackers belong to the North Korean intelligence service and are prosecuted for cyberattacks against large companies with the aim of surpassing, among other things, the multi-million dollar cryptocurrencies.
“We continue to focus on North Korea’s campaign against global crime,” John Demers told USA Today.
White House concern that Demer’s words may “provoke North Korea”
This prompted several of Joe Biden’s security advisers to file complaints with the Justice Department. Just days before Demer’s statement, Biden administration officials agreed to tone down public statements about North Korea so as not to unnecessarily irritate the country in the face of the continuing threat from nuclear weapons. John Demer’s tough statement is considered to have violated internal agreement and the security service is said to be unhappy with the choice of words. According to NBC, there are now concerns in the White House that Demer’s words could “provoke North Korea.”
The Biden administration tried unsuccessfully to reach North Korea last month. However, Kim Jong-Un’s sister, Kim Yo-Jong, warned the United States earlier this week that the country is currently conducting military exercises with South Korea.
– We warn the new administration in the United States that it is trying to make us smell gunpowder smoke. If you want to be able to sleep in peace and quiet for the next four years, it is best not to provoke us the first thing you do, says Kim Yo-Jong according to North Korean state media, Yonhap reports.
