At 2pm on Monday, three people were injured in a work accident inside the SSAB area in Luleå. Thomas Barsk, chief safety representative, says the three men dumped burnt lime from a truck into a silo when the connection to the hose, which is attached to the lime truck, came loose.
– If it’s broken or I don’t know. But all three were exposed to lime, he says.
It is not clear why the ambulance was delayed
According to Thomas Barsk, occupational health was first implemented with a nurse. An ambulance was also called, showing up after just 45 minutes. Later, one of the men traveled by ambulance to Sunderby Hospital, while the other two were driven by security.
– It took a long time to get an ambulance here. I don’t know why it was and if it was busy somewhere, says Thomas Barsk, IF Metall’s chief security representative.
Lime can corrode the eyes
Today at lunchtime, SSAB will begin its internal investigation. The incident has also been reported to the Swedish Work Environment Authority.
How dangerous is it when lime gets out of the car?
– You have protective equipment against it, such as protective clothing and glasses. But if it gets in your eyes, it can be corrosive. So I can’t say how dangerous it is on a certain scale, says Thomas Barsk, IF Metall’s chief security representative at SSAB.
SVT Nyheter Norrbotten is looking for a comment from the ambulance service in Luleå.
