It was at 12.30am on Sunday night when West Midland police received reports of a knife cut in central Birmingham in England, police wrote on Twitter.
The police state in a statement that they immediately went to the scene together with an ambulance. Shortly after, alarms were received that several additional knife cuts had occurred in the area.
– We know that there are several people injured, but at the moment we cannot comment on how many or how seriously injured they are, said the police in the statement.
“Major incident”
The incident has been classified as a “major incident” and both police and rescue personnel have worked at the scene overnight to tend to the wounded and injured, according to police.
Hurst Street and Bromsgrove Street, streets with a lot of nightlife, have been cordoned off and police are urging people to stay away. It is unclear if there are suspects.
– Work is still in progress to ensure what has happened and it may take some time before we have a chance to confirm something. At this initial stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the cause of the incident.
