South Korean ships near Yeonpyeong Island, near the North Korean border, on Thursday, the same day a South Korean man is said to have been shot dead in the area by North Korean soldiers.
North Korea regrets that its military shot dead a South Korean man who crossed the border into North Korean waters, according to the South Korean presidential office.
The apology must come from dictator Kim Jong-Un himself, who in a letter is said to describe the incident as “embarrassing.” According to the information, North Korea also confirms suspicions that the man was shot and killed as part of the country’s tough strategy to keep the coronavirus out.
North Korea has not commented on the incident or the details of the apology.
Seoul said on Thursday that a man who had disappeared from a patrol boat near Yeonpyeong Island was shot dead by North Korean soldiers who then set his body on fire. According to the South Korean military, there were indications that the man wanted to jump into North Korea.
