When Diego Maradona entered, it was voluntary and “not urgent.”

Now the icon’s personal physician confirms that a bleeding has been detected in the head that must be operated on immediately.

When Diego Maradona entered a clinic in La Plata yesterday, his personal doctor Leopoldo Luque emphasized that the situation was not acute, but that the soccer icon felt depressed and that he was admitted for a check-up.

– He has been very depressed for a week, he has not wanted to eat, a hospital employee told AP.

Operated immediately

But now the situation has worsened. A CT scan revealed a subdural hemorrhage in the space between the skull and the brain that required immediate surgery.

At the moment, it is not clear how big the bleeding is or how severe it is.

A subdural hemorrhage is, according to 1177, something that can occur in the space between the brain and the skull after a blow. The blood and fluid that collects around you cause inflammation that can put pressure on the brain and cause everything from headaches to unconsciousness.

Awake and alert

His friend and coach Stefano Ceci has spoken on the Italian radio channel Radio Kiss Kiss, according to Football Italia:

– He must have hit his head without realizing it. It can happen with the pills you take for your trouble sleeping. Doctors have said that the operation is not very risky, he will be operated tonight.

On Tuesday, doctor Leopoldo Luque confirmed that Maradona had been transferred 70 kilometers to another hospital for an operation that he describes as routine. Maradona must have been awake and alert during the movement.
