There is conflicting information about what happened to the Belarusian protest leader Maria Kalesnikava.

According to the opposition, she was dominated by masked men in the center of Minsk and was taken away in a minibus.

Tuesday morning gave Belarusian state television another version of what happened. According to authorities, Kalesnikava was arrested early Tuesday when she and two other people tried to cross the border into Ukraine, Reuters writes.

The two who traveled with Kalesnikava are said to be in Ukraine, according to the information.

According to the Belarusian news site tut.by, Kalesnikava had crossed the border in a BMW in the company of Anton Radniankou and Ivan Krautsou. The last two are members of the opposition coordination council and disappeared at the same time as Kalesnikava. Kalesnikava was arrested, while Radniankou and Krautsou were allowed to enter Ukraine. It is unclear why the border guards decided to arrest Kalesnikava. Tut.by interviews a border official who claims that Kalesnikava was pushed out of the car on the stretch between the Belarusian border control and the border with Ukraine. After that, she must have been arrested by the border guards.

Ukrainian border police confirm for Reuters that Kalesnikava reached the border crossing, but did not enter Ukraine.
