Germany reports a record number of new corona infections in the country, more than 30,000.
However, the increase is partly due to the fact that no federal state figures were released on Wednesday.
“For technical reasons, around 3,500 cases from (federal state) Baden-Württemberg had not been reported. The problem has been solved and the cases are reported today,” writes the country’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
Germany, which has about 83 million inhabitants, has reported a total of 24,125 deaths.
This spring, Germany was praised for its handling of the pandemic, when the country managed to keep infection and death rates relatively low. But from late summer to fall, the spread of the infection has been extensive.
Beginning Wednesday, there will be a closure of, among other things, unnecessary stores and schools, which will apply at least until January 10.
