Voters in Joe Biden’s birthplace, Scranton Wave State Pennsylvania.
Florida fell to Joe Biden and the disappointment could not be hidden from fans who met the TT envoy in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. But hope lived in him in the end during this uncertain electoral duel.
At home with the McGregor family in Scranton, the atmosphere is upbeat and tense. A dozen relatives follow the electoral vigil in front of a giant television screen. As soon as Joe Biden wins a state, Virginia McGregor rings the bell.
In addition to the television, there are two computers and countless mobile phones in operation. The fact that this is the case even in various Wavemaster states makes Grace McGregor, her husband Michael and their mother Virginia nervous.
– We are optimistic, I think we will win in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, says Virginia McGregor (in blue), who is active in the Democrats nationwide.
– Florida is a disappointment, but does not decide the elections. And it’s not completely finished there, says hopefully Virginia McGregor.
The abortion issue again
The abortion issue is crucial to many Trump voters TT has met with in recent days. Many of them are deeply religious and describe him as President Donald Trump defending the unborn.
– Abortion is the most important issue for me. The president advocates for positive change, says office manager Janet Garvey, who along with her 90-year-old mother, Catheryn Garvey, watched one of Trump’s last campaign rallies from their car.
The election took place at an airport in Pennsylvania.
Preacher Mary Noldy, who hopes to enter the Pennsylvania state government, also cites her opposition to abortion as a crucial reason to vote for Donald Trump. He is also pleased that he defends the right to own firearms.
Respect the most important
At Marywood University in Scranton, the three students Austen Miller, Lexi Palys and Madi Howell are calling for honesty, empathy and a willingness to compromise on the part of the next American leader. They are all first time voters and they have all voted for Democrat Joe Biden.
– The most important thing for me is respect for human rights. It’s terrible that people can be killed because of their skin color or sexuality, says Howell, who is studying to be a music therapist.
TT: Do you have friends who are Trump supporters?
– Yes. Besides being generally “triumphant”, I have the impression that they like their economic policy, capitalism. Many of them reject images of reality that do not fit their own.
