IFK Gothenburg players on Roland Nilsson: “Lots of experience”

When IFK Gothenburg trained in Kamratgården the day after the starburst against Hammarby, Roland Nilsson stood by. Blåvitt’s new coach observed the training session, but conducts his first real training session on Saturday.

A day later IFK Gothenburg takes on the latest Falkenberg in something that can be compared to a fateful early match for the Blåvitts, who were seriously involved in the battle of the tail after failing to win any of the last 14 Allsvenskan matches.

– It seems that the squad of players and leaders have really accepted the new coach with great pleasure. “Role” has a lot of experience and has also been in the club and knows what it means. He feels safe, says IFK midfielder August Erlingmark, 22.

Erlingmark has had Roland Nilsson as the national team captain in the U21 national team.

– I have had him for four gatherings and he is a great leader who emphasizes that the collective is important. He’s also good tactically and highlights what’s important in football, says August Erlingmark, continuing:

– It’s basically been 4-4-2 but there have been some variations with a treble line and 4-3-3. He wants there to be freedom too.

“He knows what it’s about”

Homecoming Sebastian Eriksson, who was more or less directly injured on the comeback, hopes IFK Gothenburg can lift with Roland Nilsson at the helm.

– “Role” knows what he is about and has long been at a high level both as a player and as a leader. He’s been at Blåvitt for many years too, so he knows what it’s all about, he says.

What will be the most important thing to him now?

– Gather the group and a team that can do more than 90 minutes and start earning some points. But it’s small, small steps that it takes to take those steps gradually and start winning games again. It doesn’t happen overnight and a training session and a game. But we have two and a half months, so there is time.

How is the body after Mjällby’s injury?

– It’s pretty good. She was already in the field after eight days and she feels good. I can do almost anything and hope to be ready in a few days, but maybe not until Sunday. I take it day by day. I have no pain and it feels good. It’s about gaining endurance in the muscle.

How do you see the situation?

– We as individuals must start thinking about this and we have a great responsibility. And I felt today that something had happened to everyone, that what happened yesterday was not acceptable at all. From there we can start working together.
