IFK Gothenburg caught in the bottom battle of the Allsvenskan

IFK Gothenburg took a much-needed win in Roland Nilsson’s coaching debut on the road against Falkenberg when they won 3-0.

But against Kalmar, it was the visiting team’s turn to take a much-needed victory.

In the 40th minute, an error by the local left defense allowed Christian Kouakou to pass, outplayed the local goalkeeper and added another goal for the visitors.

He controlled the ball so “well” that he looked to the far corner and goalkeeper Giannis Anestis had no chance.

– It is extremely unfortunate, says Christoffer Andersson in Dplay.

In the second half, Gothenburg failed to get any adequate forcing. Instead, it was Kalmar who made it 2-0 at twenty minutes into the half when Isak Magnusson had to advance into the offensive half and score the ball behind Anestis.

Nilsson: “A mountain to climb”

Pontus Wernbloom reduced for Gothenburg in the second extra minute when he headed headfirst into a post, but Blåvitt didn’t get any closer as there was only a minute left in the game.

– Soccer is sometimes a difficult game. A mistake can be costly. I told him that happens. You have to take it and keep working. There is no other way. We have to live with that, says IFK coach Roland Nilsson of Kouakou’s own goal.

– In the group it will be … it becomes very difficult and you can see in the players that you immediately lower your head and then it becomes difficult.

Nilsson says Gothenburg tried to change a thing or two during the halftime break.

– But then it becomes a mistake and Kalmar counterattacks and finishes and suddenly it’s 2-0. So it is a mountain to climb.

Calms down in playoffs

Roland Nilsson’s team is still in a precarious situation.

– We are in the situation in which we find ourselves and we live with it. There are nine games left and now there is a week to go until next. Then we have time to do something, he says.

The result means that Kalmar moves up the rankings with one more match played than Helsingborg and Falkenberg. Gothenburg is in 13th place, the position above Kalmar.

– The AIK have too good teams and I think Gothenburg will go up when they have time to build, says Kalmar coach Nanne Bergstrand on the background battle.

– There are nine games left and I also think that the teams that have some points can now participate. We know how fall tends to be with some strange results and now we have a fall that lasts until December 6th. There will be a lot of weird football games in November and December, we can probably count on that.
