Sports are not allowed.

Then the Icelandic soccer leagues are immediately suspended and champions are named.

Iceland has new and tighter restrictions due to the corona pandemic. The country’s government has decided to ban all sporting activities until November 17, and as a result, the Icelandic Football Association decides to cancel the remainder of the league match.

“It is a difficult decision, but necessary for the interests of football,” the association writes.

Despite four rounds remaining, where two teams have five, league-leading Valur, the best men’s team wins. The new champion team, with former Kalmar FF midfielder Sebastian Starke Hedlund in the squad, has eight points less than second-hand Hafnarfjörður, and is now the Icelandic champion for the 23rd time in club history.

And although it is softer in the female top series, the same rules apply. The second Valur, with four matches to play, has only two points for Breiðablik, a match to spare, who wins gold. The first of the club in ten years.

“Bad that we’re leaving”

In theory, the men’s teams Gróttir and Fjölnir were already ready for relegation and are leaving. And Keflavik and Leiknir move up.

However, the battle for the two jumbo spots in the women’s league was more open. Hafnarfjörður had only one point left for a new contract, and KR Reykjavik had seven with two more matches to play than the last few competitors.

– Personally, I think it is correct to cancel the season. That is the right thing to do for society. But it is wrong to let out three times a team that has been in quarantine. They have not been the same conditions. The league should be expanded, I don’t understand why we can’t have twelve teams next season, says KR Reykjavik midfielder Thórdís Hrönn Sigfúsdóttir.

Tindastóll and Keflavik will be promoted to the 2021 season.
