Iceland closer to victory in Reykjavik

The Swedish team had a difficult time in cold and windy Rekjavik.

– It was a difficult match between two good teams fighting for the three points, so it was perfectly fine, newcomer goalkeeper Zecira Musovic tells SVT Sport.

Anna Anvegård started as a scorer. Sofia Jakobsson deflected a shot from the right that the visiting goalkeeper did well to deflect the ball. Anvegård received it and cut 1-0 with a half volley in the 33rd minute.

– Sofia does very well on the edge and registers the ball. I lowered it and cut it. It was nice for the self-confidence to score goals, but the feeling of not getting three points weighs more, says Anvegård.

Soon after, Iceland celebrated making it 1-1, but during big protests, the goal was rejected by Sara Björk Gunnarsdottir and Sweden’s leadership held firm. In replays, the goal looked completely correct, but the referee thought the Icelanders were too harsh against Zecira Musovic in goal and ruled a Swedish free kick.

– The forest had gone crazy right now, they are deprived of a goal. It is Musovic who should be stronger there, said SVT expert Daniel Nannskog.

“It just feels bitter”

After just over an hour, the receipt from Iceland arrived. After a long pitch, misjudged by several Swedes, Elin Metta Jensen stayed up front and headed the ball over Musovic, making her first A-international from the start, 1-1.

– I will clear the ball but miss it, says Hurtig who missed and headed the ball in connection with the Icelandic draw.

– It just feels bitter, like we’ve lost, but we haven’t. We are not playing our own game, Hurtig continues.

Two rib hits for Iceland at the end

A couple of minutes after the draw, Anvegård had a chance to give Sweden the lead when she with quick feet hit a shot that, however, did not have enough power but Sandra Sigurdardottir was able to tip the ball into the corner.

With a quarter of an hour left, Iceland landed two rib shots in connection with a corner kick, but a hard-working Musovic saw the ball pass overhead. Soon after, Musovic managed to get out at the last minute and was able to hit the ball in front of Sveindi’s Jane Jonsdottir, who almost caught up with Magdalena Eriksson for a short return shot.
