He is 20 years old and from Eritrea. When DN talks to him on Thursday morning, he is visited by his friend Atria, who came here from Gothenburg to get a driver’s license. In Gothenburg, the waiting time is forever, he says.
Ahferom himself studies at SFI and has lived in Vetlanda for three years.
– It’s the war in my home country, that’s why I’m here. And here, in Vetlanda, it is usually not difficult to come from another country. I have not experienced racism here. But … now I’m scared, he says.
In the so-called million-zone town of Småland Highlands, it’s usually very quiet, says everyone we talk to. But since Wednesday night, the police have been guarding the detainee’s apartment.
Ahferom was himself inside the center when the writing took place. He saw the police approaching.
– But I didn’t understand then that it was him, my neighbor.
Ahferom’s girlfriend Semira has had time to put on her warm jacket and backpack, she is on her way to school.
– I’ve seen this guy inside the station from time to time but I haven’t talked to him. I don’t know what to believe, more than that everything is horrible.
Now he worries that the people of Vetlanda will start to solve problems and point the finger at himself.
– This is very difficult, but we are all the same, all people, he says.
