Sweden had won their first three European Championship qualifiers and immediately showed which team was the biggest number when Hungary came to visit Gamla Ullevi.

After five minutes, Lina Hurtig played with forward Kosovare Asllani who, however, missed the ball in front of an open goal.

The first goal came in the eleventh minute when Magdalena Eriksson headed in from a corner. The ball sought out Lina Hurtig, who headed the ball further into the net.

The chance of winning the match was even better for Sweden shortly before the break. Kosovar Asllani found the ball to Lina Hurtig who was kidnapped by Hungarian goalkeeper Barbara Bíró just outside the penalty area.

The referee did not hesitate and sanctioned a penalty in favor of Bíró.

After that, it was basically a one-goal game and Sweden were able to put pressure on Hungary during the second half, which ultimately resulted in a landslide 8-0 victory.

Most of the goals were scored by Damallsvenskan shooting league leader Anna Anvegård, responsible for a hat trick.

– It was heavy after the failures in the first part, but good when it falls in the second. And you clearly want to deliver when you get the chance, says Anvegård.

Next up is group runner-up Iceland on Tuesday.

– Then it will be a completely different game, we know that. But first we enjoy this tonight and tomorrow, says Anvegård.

“I have not been there”

The captain of the Swedish team, Caroline Seger, with more than 200 international matches in her bag, was impressed with the effort of her team.

– I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something like this before, it’s not what I remember in any case. It’s incredibly good to score those goals and be able to play the game. It is strong that we continue so that it does not stop when it is 3-0, says Seger.

– It is absolutely fantastic that we have so many good players and many who are in very good shape.
