In recent weeks, the police and army have collected 771 deaths from homes in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, which has been the center of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
An additional 631 deaths have been recovered from hospitals, which are fully legal, according to Jorge Wated, who heads a group of police and military personnel who are working to deal with the consequences that the virus has brought. It does not mention the causes of death of the hundreds of victims.
Townhouses have failed to deal with all the dead, and residents have posted videos on social media where the abandoned bodies are visible on the streets.
7,500 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Ecuador since the first case was confirmed in late February. More than 70 percent of the cases have been found in the coastal province of Guayas, where Guayaquil is located.
The army and police began working to recover bodies from the houses three weeks after the collapse of operations at the Guayaquil house.
