After President Donald Trump’s covid-19 diagnosis dominated the election campaign and news flow in the United States in recent days, it’s time for a debate between Joe Biden’s backup Kamala Harris, and the ditto of Trump, Mike Pence.
They meet at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in the Mormon state of Utah, where Kamala Harris was already last Friday to prepare.
The chaos between Trump and Biden
The first presidential debate between Trump and Bilden last week degenerated into chaos in which moderator Chris Wallace lost control of the debate, and especially Trump interrupted Biden over and over again. The image was contradicted by calling Trump a “clown.”
No one in the United States expects such a level in the vice presidential debate, but given the inflated situation, it is still expected to be a heated debate, with other types of attack points than between the 70s plus Biden and Trump.
Hillary Clinton’s Warning
Kamala Harris was on the Hillary Clinton podcast last week, where Clinton, who lost the presidential election to Trump in 2016, warned of sexist attacks during the debate:
– You must also be prepared for failures, attempts to undermine her, you personally, you as a woman, who are about to become our next vice president. I think it will be very difficult from the other side to try to put you in a compartment, says Clinton.
Kamala Harris is expected to launch a fierce attack on Pence’s efforts against the corona pandemic. Pence leads the White House coronavirus group and has a tough public opinion on the virus.
According to an Axios / Ipsos survey, seven in ten Americans have little confidence in the information the White House provides about the coronavirus. The New York Times writes that a vast majority of the population has come to disparage the efforts of the White House.
On stage, the debaters will be separated by a Plexiglas disc, to reduce the risk of spreading the infection. This was something that Pence’s team initially objected to, as it tested negative.
“If Harris wants, she can surround herself with Plexiglass, if that makes her feel more comfortable,” said Pence chief of staff Marc Short.
But they changed, and now there will be a demarcation between the debaters.
