In 2016, his colleagues mourned the death of Hiannick Kamba.
The former Schalke 04 player has now been found alive.
Hiannick Kamba was part of the very promising youth team at Schalke 04, which in 2005 won the German Junior Cup. But as teammates Manuel Neuer and Benedikt Höwedes became soccer stars and world champions, Kamba’s career turned into a fight in the lower divisions.
“Abandoned by his friends”
2016 then came the surprise message. The 29-year-old had died in a traffic accident in the Congolese capital Kinshasa.
– We were in training when we found out. Several players cried in the locker room, coach of German soccer club YEG Hassel told WAZ after the message.
But now Hiannick Kamba has been found alive. According to Bild, he lives in his old hometown of Gelsenkirchen and works in the energy industry. The disappearance has at the same time become a trial.
– Kamba claims that he was abandoned by his friends in the Congo in January 2016 and left without any documents, money or phone, says prosecutor Anette Milk.
Received a million
He is now pursuing a fraud case against Kamba’s ex-wife, who is suspected of having received a million through Kamba’s German life insurance after filing a false death certificate with the German authorities. Everything should have been discovered when Kamba visited the German embassy in Kinshasa in 2016.
