During a press conference on Wednesday morning, Skåne Region infection control doctor Eva Melander said that there are still few older people who are infected with COVID-19.
– There are still very low numbers. We hold the flag high to protect the elderly and we are very happy that we do not have more cases, he says.
Occasional cases have occurred among the elderly, but there are no major outbreaks.
– Among the elderly, it is sampled at least as much as before, so we are very happy that the number of cases is not increasing, says Eva Melander.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic”
But despite the positive numbers, he wants to remind the people of Skåne that we are still in the middle of a pandemic.
– In the countries around us, the infection increases in a completely different way.
– As I said, Skåne is at a decent level, but if we want to maintain it, it is important to follow the restrictions that we have worked with all along. This applies to the private, labor and health sectors.
The blanket ban on visiting nursing homes and healthcare will expire on October 1.
But according to Pia Lundbom, director of health and medical care, this is not the same as allowing visits as before the pandemic.
– We will have different variations. And if we happen to be infected in hospitals, we are prepared to quickly change this decision.
– But now we want to give the Scanians the opportunity to visit their relatives or accompany them on care visits. It is not possible to have such a blanket restraining order for several months.
