Paul Rusesabagina, the former hotel manager made world famous through the movie “Hotel Rwanda”, is being denied bail again. The reason is that there is a risk that he will flee, according to a court in the Rwandan capital Kigali.
Rusesabagina, 66, is charged with various crimes, including terrorism, and is at risk of being sentenced to life in prison. He had previously applied for bail on health grounds, but was denied.
At the end of August this year, Rusesabagina disappeared from the United Arab Emirates, where she was. A few days later, he was shown handcuffed in Kigali.
His relatives believe that the Rwandan authorities abducted him, something that current Rwandan President Paul Kagame denies.
Rusesabagina left Rwanda after the 1994 genocide, when her actions saved the lives of more than 1,200 people. He has been very critical of Paul Kagame.
