During a press conference on Tuesday, Culture and Democracy Minister Amanda Lind (MP) announced new research to review the needs of culture and how it can be restarted once the crown pandemic has subsided.
“We need to do everything in our power, not only to protect culture in the here and now and strengthen it through the crisis, but also to ensure that cultural life has better conditions to restart once we are in a better position. “Amanda said. Lind during the meeting.
The call The reboot investigation, dubbed “Reboot for cultivation: recovery and development after corona pandemic”, will begin in January next year and will be reported on June 30.
With the help of experts and experts from the cultural sector, the research will summarize the consequences of the pandemic, analyze what lessons can be learned and propose measures to restart culture. The aim is for Sweden to have “a strong and independent cultural life in all parts of the country, even after the crisis.”
The investigation is led by Linda Zachrison, who, among other things, has a past as CEO of Cirkus Cirkör and, more recently, as the Swedish cultural council at the Swedish embassy in Washington.
– When cultural life returns, we know that changes will have taken place whether we like it or not, said Linda Zachrison during the press conference.
According to Amanda Lind, they have Structural issues in the cultural sector have become even clearer during the pandemic and it is something that needs to be addressed.
– The pandemic has shed light on how extremely difficult the situation is for creators of culture. You escape the security systems and find yourself in a very unsafe situation. And artists are the very basis for us to have a cultural life in Sweden, Amanda Lind tells DN:
– Then we also see how living culture has been greatly affected and how digitization has created the opportunity to reach more people, but also challenges when it comes to opportunities for culture creators to earn income from the culture they produce.
Many have already left the culture due to the pandemic. How to help them?
– We want a broad cultural life for everyone, also in the future. Let everyone feel that they have a place in Swedish culture and dare to pursue a career as an artist or stage technician. It may not only be those with a secure financial situation who choose to step in and create culture. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that we ensure that better and safer conditions are created for all who work with culture, says Amanda Lind.
In addition to the investigation, the government has assigned separate allocations to the Agency for Cultural Analysis, which will map the efforts of the government, authorities, regions, and municipalities, and to the Arts Council, which will take a closer look at how the pandemic has affected the economic and social conditions of the artists. The two surveys will be released in the spring and will serve as the basis for the main research.
