Here the hunters take the moose out of the river

Recently, large numbers of elk have gathered on a promontory south of Sorsele. On their annual hike, they do not advance as the ice is unusually weak.

Trampled down the path of the elk

Magnus Bidner and members of the Sorsele Hunters Association have been by the river for the weekend. On Saturday they stepped on tracks that together with the cold of Sunday night made the ice stronger in their places.

– He has spent the day trying to save moose from the wake and hitting roads across the river with scooters. The work of the last days along with the cold has caused several moose to take over now, he explains to SVT.

Great compromise

Individuals from all over Sweden have become financially involved in the effort on the Vindelälven river.

– This means that we can offer compensation for this risky job. The ice broke during the rescue this morning, where there were three of us going through, says Magnus Bidner.

Hunters will continue to patrol the bad areas during the day, so that the elk do not go through the ice in the worst places.

On Sunday, hunters managed to pull a cow from an ice floe in the river, but despite the rescue, it was too weak and did not recover. View the insert from a distance on the clip.
