Helsingborg had 1,015 new covid-19 cases last week, and a record infection per 100,000 residents.
– The spread of the infection in Skåne is similar to the worst areas in Europe, statistician Henrik Persson told a press conference.
Last week’s crown figures were the highest since the start of the Helsingborg pandemic: 1,015 new cases were reported. With that, the municipality stands out compared to the rest of Skåne.
Last week, Helsingborg had 687 infected per 100,000 inhabitants, 50 percent more than the number of infected per 100,000 inhabitants in Skåne as a whole, the municipality announced at a press conference Monday morning.
Strikes against schools
On Monday, Helsingborgs Dagblad also reported that the virus infection is hitting several schools hard.
Particularly affected are Gustavslundsskolan and Wieselgrensskolan, where one in three employees is at home with symptoms or confirmed covid-19.
Education Director Tony Mufic confirms a tense situation with a high absence of staff.
– We are prepared for changes, he says.
In the care, in principle, all the planned holidays during Christmas and New Year have been withdrawn. Adult education has been displaced to distance education.
Several municipal cultural institutions such as concert halls, libraries and theaters in the city have closed in recent weeks.
SMS sent
As early as Friday, the city of Helsingborg sent text messages to about half of its residents to describe the dire situation.
The information effort continues with information in the city and cooperation with city merchants. On Friday special postcards will be sent to all homes in the municipality where the message is self-isolating.
At the same time, Google figures show that many municipal residents use public transport and shopping centers as usual.
Black Friday stands out as a possible factor.
City Councilman Peter Danielsson, M, called during the press conference that more people should follow the general advice to reduce infection.
– We have a record of the spread of the infection. We must act strongly and more people must follow the advice, he says.
Addresses young people
Danielsson is especially aimed at young people who must follow the advice.
– You may not be so affected yourself. But their actions can lead to others getting seriously ill, urged the city council.
– Now it’s really serious. It is time for everyone to take responsibility.
