– Scream the pains, worries and anguish …
With a handful of fireworks, Sofia Helin called in the new year from an empty Skansen. Most of the official celebrations are canceled and in Skansen there was no trembling audience to follow the performances in front of the stage. But the fireworks in Stockholm still accompanied Sofia Helin’s reading of Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poem “Nyårsklockan”, which has been read at Skansen on New Years since the 19th century.
A strange year ended in an unusual way, with the corona pandemic as a backdrop. “Ring the bell” – Sofia Helin has always thought that Lord Tennyson’s famous words sounded great on New Years Eve, but now they have a different tone to her.
– Now I think the poem is in line with unification, in the direction of light and openness, he told TT before the honorable task.
– If it gives strength to think “now we have a little more strength”, it would be fantastic, he continued.
