On Thursday, Region Halland called a press conference due to the worrying situation in the region. It is mainly in northern Halland where the number of coronavirus cases is increasing, but the spread of the infection takes place throughout the region.
– We see a clear increase in the number of hospital caregivers, in the number of positive samples and in the number of cases, which already reached 270 this week, said infection control doctor Maria Ryberg Mo during the press conference.
The corona infection is now spreading again in nursing homes, something Maria Ryberg Mo believes is very concerning.
– They are the weakest in society, he says.
“Absolutely crucial”
Martin Engström believes that preparation in medical care is good, but that it is of the utmost importance that the spread of the infection is slowed down.
– It is absolutely crucial at this time, that all the inhabitants of society assume their personal responsibility and follow the restrictions that exist, society is nothing more than us as individuals, he says.
Town councils
New restrictions from the Swedish Public Health Agency mean that the public ceiling will be raised from 50 people to 300. But it has not yet been decided whether it is relevant to Halland.
– We will review if we can raise the ceiling or keep it at fifty, we do so in dialogue with infection control doctors and the government, says county councilor Jörgen Peters.
The local general councils that apply in the Västra Götaland region, the Skåne region and the Stockholm region, among others, come directly from the Swedish Public Health Agency and cannot be influenced by the regions. A dialogue is now under way on whether Halland should also be assigned local councils.
The region is asking employers to review what can be done at each workplace to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Tracking the infection shows that it is at social events, such as cafes and after-work, that the virus continues to spread.
