A man in Belgium wanted to get his wife out of jail. Therefore, he decided to hijack a helicopter and free her, but not everything went as planned.
The 24-year-old man booked a helicopter and when the flight was about to take place, he threatened the pilot with a fake weapon and forced the person to fly to the prison in the south of Brussels, writes The Guardian. The helicopter headed for the jail and circled a few laps, making the 24-year-old kidnapper so dizzy that he had to stick his head out of one of the windows and vomit several times.
Despite the cheers and greetings from the inmates, the pilot was unable to land in the prison yard and was finally instructed to fly to a nearby town where a getaway car awaited the 24-year-old.
The failed release attempt, on the other hand, would have an even worse ending.
Shortly after, he and three other men were arrested when the 24-year-old had left a significant trail: He had booked the hijacked helicopter in his own name.
The man’s lawyer, Tom van Overbek, confirms that the 24-year-old wanted to get his wife out of jail, adding:
– It seems that everything has been arranged quite amateurishly.
The four men are suspected, among other things, of robbery and illegal deprivation of liberty. The man met and married the woman he tried to free last year when he himself was convicted of drug trafficking.
