A 23-year-old man is accused today of suspected murder of a 17-year-old girl who disappeared in Uddevalla in November.

A part of the girl’s body was found, hidden in a suitcase, in the now loaded man’s apartment. He is also prosecuted for breach of marriage.

Thousands of people were involved in the search for the 17-year-old last fall. A few days after the disappearance, the 23-year-old man, who was a 17-year-old boyfriend, was arrested.

He has always denied crime.

Camera prosecutor Jim Westerberg today presented the charge of the girl’s death at a digital press conference:

– During the weekend of November 16 and 17, family members began to worry that they had not heard from him since November 14. Relatives reported the disappearance to police on November 17, they were concerned that something had happened. All signs of life end on the afternoon of November 14, says Jim Westerberg.

Blunt force

According to the prosecutor, traces of something violent occurred in the department in connection with the arrest of the suspect were found. The girl was killed with repeated blunt force, according to the indictment.

– A large crime scene investigation was conducted, says Jim Westerberg.

– On November 28, when the crime scene investigation had not yet been completed and searching with a corpse, a part of the body was found, well packed in a suitcase.

According to the prosecution, the 23-year-old, after the murder, left the body, even after he packed a part of the body in a suitcase at his home. The man also “got rid of the rest of the body in one or more still unknown places”.

BLOOD TRACK

What links the man to the crime, according to the prosecutor, are traces of blood in the department, among other things.

– The man is the person who last saw her in life. Neighbors have heard screams from a woman in the apartment. Traces of blood in the home give a clear idea that a serious violent crime has occurred in the living room, says Jim Westerberg.

– It is clear that he has also cleaned afterwards. There were also traces of a larger kitchen knife in the house. There are also quite a few additional problematic circumstances that support prosecution, Westerberg says.

Thousands of people participated in the search in and around Uddevalla, a search that is still ongoing. About ten days after the search, the body part now mentioned in the indictment was found. But the rest of the girl’s remains have not been found.
