Labrador male Harry is five years old. Together with his driver, Customs Inspector Kim Holm of the Malmö Police Group, he has been working since 2018 to search for drugs in the Malmö region.
The workplaces are mainly the stronghold of the Öresund Bridge in Lernacken and Helsingborg, but the duo also work with searching on trains and searching along postal lines and in airport terminals.
– Harry is better at vehicle searches and especially at careful searches of cars that we have brought in for inspection, says Kim Holm.
Kim describes Harry as calm and meticulous, a dog who loves to look for the little things.
– Harry is kind and tame, but at the same time tough and capable of working in tough environments and tight spaces, he says.
“God nosintensitet”
When asked what makes the two of them a good team, Kim says that he and Harry are quite similar.
Now Harry’s year is crowned with a wonderful prize: the title of Drug Seeking Dog of the Year 2020.
The jury, made up of members of the Swedish Customs and the Swedish Kennel Club, among others, justifies the choice:
Harry and Kim Holm are a calm and methodical team. They have found a rhythm that suits both of them and maintain a high and uniform concentration. One of Harry’s main strengths is his perseverance in the search, with the intensity of the nose and the tempo in good balance.
Harry and Kim work efficiently on all flows and Harry’s ability to search for people, vehicles and merchandise is amazing. The crew, among other things, have made fantastic adjustments to the heavy truck flow. It’s a difficult flow that works, in part because you move through traffic with a lot of noise and movement, in part because the olfactory environment is messy with a lot of strong smells to penetrate. “
Harry and Kim contributed to 56 drug seizures in the past year. Based on an estimate of a total value, in terms of total social benefit, of SEK 393 million.
