WASHINGTON DC In modern politics, it is often complained that there is no difference between parties or candidates. With few exceptions, basically everyone feels the same way.
On the contrary, American voters have the advantage of choosing between two candidates who could not be further differentiated in fact.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump are very different people too, even though they are roughly the same age.
This time, one can really wonder what role issues play in America’s presidential election. Candidates spend most of their time slandering and insulting each other.
Choice is really just one thing. It is a referendum on Donald Trump.
But that does not prevent there are issues that are very important when people decide who to vote for.
▪ Crownstrategin
Certainly number one for most voters. Biden accuses Trump of having no plans and has unveiled his that, while waiting for a vaccine, aims to increase testing and infection tracking to reduce the spread of infection. Biden claims that he should then open the United States in a safe way. However, it is not clear exactly how it will go.
Trump’s position is that the worst of the pandemic is over. This is despite the fact that the spread of the infection is increasing at a record rate. He wants to open society to save the economy and affirms that the cure should not be worse than the disease.
▪ Taxes
Trump has implemented one of the largest tax cuts in American history, vastly increasing the budget deficit. He wants to keep lowering taxes.
Biden wants to raise taxes for all Americans who earn more than 3.5 million SEK a year. This is because Trump’s tax cuts have primarily targeted high-income people and Biden wants to invest more in wellness.

Health insurance
Trump wants to abolish Obama’s already eroded public health insurance attempt. You said you have a much better and cheaper insurance plan. But it can’t explain how to get private insurance companies to insure people who already have one or more health problems.
Biden wants to defend and improve what is called Obamacare. It points to the folly of putting more than 20 million Americans without insurance in the middle of a pandemic. Biden believes that health insurance is a right for all Americans, but he doesn’t want to introduce a Scandinavian model like the left phalanx within the party.
So
Trump no longer threatens the United States to leave NATO, but continues to pressure European countries to invest more in their defenses. His latest move is to bring home the 40,000 American soldiers in Germany. Trump wants to reduce the role of the United States in the world.
Biden wants to bury the ax with America’s allies and restore confidence in NATO. When the United States and Europe work together, it means fewer opportunities for China, Russia, and various regional powers to advance their positions. Biden wants to strengthen America’s role in the world.
China
One of the few issues where the two are not very far apart. Biden doesn’t like the trade war Trump has started, but he and Trump agree that China’s progress in the international arena must be stopped. But while Biden condemns Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Trump is reluctant to speak ill of him.
But both are trying to be tough on China. Not least in terms of responsibility for the spread of the coronavirus.

Immigration
Trump wants to finish building his wall against Mexico, which he believes will stop illegal immigration. It has drastically reduced the number of refugees the United States is willing to accept. He wants to evict young people who have lived their entire lives in the United States.
Biden doesn’t want to give the wall money. He wants to defend the right to asylum and establish a special force to find the parents of the refugee children that Trump deported to Central America without their children. He wants to give residence permits to young people who have lived their entire lives in the United States.
Racism
Donald Trump denies that there is racism in the American police. These are individual rotten eggs, according to him. He sees demonstrations of the importance of black lives as excuses for riots and looting. Law and order is one of your most important electoral messages.
It is true that Joe Biden condemns when demonstrations turn violent with sympathies for the BLM and believes that the American police and society as a whole must reform to fight racism.
Iran
In 2018, Trump ended the Iran nuclear deal despite persistent calls from US allies not to do so. Since then, it has reintroduced tough sanctions against Iran.
Biden, who was involved in negotiating the deal, will likely try to make it work again and thus reduce tensions in the Middle East. But it won’t be easy. The hawks in Iran do not want to be forced not to acquire nuclear weapons.
The weather
One of the issues on which the two candidates differ the most.
Trump has ordered the United States to abandon the Paris Agreement, which will take place the day after the election, November 4. You don’t want to take any action that reduces carbon dioxide emissions if it threatens jobs in the oil, gas, and coal industries. Trump denies the climate threat.
Biden intends to bring the United States back into the Paris Agreement and wants to dramatically reduce climate emissions so that the country reaches zero emissions by 2050. Something that he believes will create hundreds of thousands of new green jobs. Biden sees climate change as one of humanity’s greatest challenges.
Rarely or never have there been such significant differences between two presidential candidates.
America will look very different depending on whether it is Joe Biden or Donald Trump who wins.
Not only that. The world will look very different.
