Linköping broke his contract with Pauline Hammarlund seven years ago. Now she got revenge.
When Pauline Hammarlund represented Linköping in 2013, the club broke the contract after one season. This year, the offensive star launched Gothenburg to the club’s first Swedish Championship gold, after a 7-0 total on the road against the LFC.
– Of course I feel a bit of revenge and would not have wanted to win with any other club, he clarifies.
In his fifth consecutive season with Gothenburg came the first gold of the Swedish Championship, both for Pauline Hammarlund and the West Coast club.
Guess how much the 26-year-old forward and the partnership both yearned for. After advancing to the top league in 1996 (then under the name Landvetter), the club has won three titles in the Swedish Cup, but none in the Swedish women’s.
– This is so incredibly big and fun that I can hardly describe it. He feels completely ill and there is no other team he would have preferred to win with, Hammarlund smiles with tears in his eyes.
Handled the press
The last two seasons, Gothenburg has been involved and fought for gold until the very end, with no success the entire way.
But now the title was secured in the penultimate round: crushing Linköping 7-0 meant the 16th win in 21 rounds and a massive 52-9 goal difference.
– There has been a lot of talk about whether we could handle the press or not, but now everyone can be quiet. Being second would not happen again, we had decided that, says Hammarlund.
The national team striker admits it was a bit special that the decision came in Linköping.
He played there in 2013, but the club decided to break the contract after one season.
– Even though it was quite a few years ago, it is clear that I feel a bit of revenge, says she, who after two seasons in Piteå has now represented Gothenburg five years in a row.
On his back, Hammarlund has the number eleven and it was only in the eleventh minute that he scored the leading goal on Saturday.
Destination program
This season’s number twelve at the damallsvenskan, he is guaranteed to untie any nerve knots in teammates and pave the way for a final total elimination.
After the break, the guests scored no less than five goals.
– The second half was not only the funnest of this season, but the funniest half I’ve ever played. Not only because of all the goals and that we did everything so well on the pitch, but also because of the wonderful happiness I felt when the referee blew up the game.
Pauline Hammarlund gets very excited when she thinks of her time in Gothenburg, which will continue for at least another season. That is the duration of the contract.
– There have been high peaks and deep valleys throughout the years. In 2017, we did not exceed eight and we could even have left the damallsvenskan. But now we have the best squad during my years here and also a wonderful group, smile.
