After the gold celebration two weeks ago, just over half of the Malmö team tested positive for covid-19. Some of them went back to training on Tuesday, some on Friday and some only on Saturday. This meant that Isaac Kiese-Thelin was not on the team against Hammarby, and that Ola Toivonen and Oscar Lewicki started on the bench.
But that Malmö would slow down because the gold is already ready, that was out of the question. Arnor Traustason and Anders Christiansen tested Hammarby goalkeeper David Ousted earlier in the game.
And after 13 minutes games led Malmö to the fore. With a sensitive foot, Christiansen sent a free kick in front of the goal. In a duel with Ahmed Ahmedhodzic, Simon Sandberg touched the ball lightly with his head before Mads Fenger controlled it in his own goal. Unfortunately, no Malmö players threatened the area in question, which was populated by at least five Hammarby players.
But Hammarby got up and took over the game for the second half of the first half. Alexander Kacaniklic had two good chances. And Aron Johannsson tied after 35 minutes of play. A direct shot into the first center, superbly served by Gustav Ludwigson.
But Malmö would Get the last word before the break. Right back Eric Larsson was able to calmly register the ball to Christiansen, who stopped from just over 20 yards pushed 2-1 into the right center. His eleventh goal of the season.
A wonderful first half. Hammarby played his way to a handful of spikes inside the penalty area. Malmö used the areas that Hammarby offered and achieved great speed on offense.
– Showed his class, Aron Johannsson told Dplay about Christiansen’s success.
– We started better, we finished better and I got a good shot, summarized Christiansen the first half.
Second half offered he continued with hectic football, with scoring chances in both directions. Above all, Hammarby created one opportunity after another. But Marko Johansson in the Malmö goal stood out and made the pure hockey saves a couple of times.
Hammarby’s young midfielder Aimar Sher rubbed Christiansen most of the time. And when he kidnapped the Dane after 55 minutes of play, the top cap went to Sören Rieks, who ran forward and grabbed Sher’s jersey.
David Fällman ran forward and “dealt” with the furious Rieks. And quickly, almost all the players grouped together and pressed.
After a few minutes, the referee was able to make a statement: Three yellow cards.
Hammarby continued rub to get a receipt. Opportunity after opportunity created. And the receipt arrived.
The tireless Ludwigson challenged in a new race, deflected the defender and finished. In a difficult situation in front of the goal, Kacaniklic was able to make it 2-2.
But Hammarby had to go head-to-head in the final three rounds for a continued chance to challenge Djurgården, Häcken and Norrköping for third European place. Now they didn’t.
“We should have won today,” Kacaniklic told Dplay.
