The preparation is good, the three largest regions are ready to fill the syringes, according to the government. Only now is the vaccine coming.
On Thursday afternoon, Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) and Minister of Civil Affairs Lena Micko (S) met with county and regional administrative boards in the three main cities to discuss vaccination.
The ministers are very happy. They perceive that the preparation for the giant effort is good, despite the fact that there has been information about squeaks, frustrations and ambiguities in the cooperation between regions and authorities.
– I don’t agree with Gnissel. Clearly there is frustration over the delays in vaccine deliveries, but they are prepared. I think it’s important to have an idea that we have a consensus, says Lena Hallengren, and Lena Micko agrees.
A giant project
Vaccination continues to be a great project in which authorities and 21 regions will collaborate. We are completely reliant on a product that has never been made before and that now everyone wants, and on the logistics and planning that occurs in the midst of a pandemic.
Is it possible that it is a bit naive to think that it could go smoothly? Well, perhaps, the ministers think, it is certainly a huge task that we are facing, but that the 21 regions would constitute a special complication, they do not want to agree.
– It’s only been seven or eight weeks since we started getting vaccinated. It will be difficult. But the regions are ready, says Lena Hallengren.
– An important factor is that they are used to vaccinating, they know what they are doing, says Lena Micko.
The vaccine determines everything
But how the vaccination will work depends on how the deliveries arrive, and there is nothing we can influence here, they emphasize.
TT: When do you think, now after today’s meeting, that we have managed to vaccinate those who want to be vaccinated?
– Our evaluation is the change of year, but it depends on how the vaccine comes. But it won’t be because Sweden isn’t ready, says Lena Hallengren.
