For the sixth consecutive weekend, people marched in the Belarusian capital to protest the results of last month’s elections in which President Alexander Lukashenko declared himself the winner. More than 100,000 people marched through the streets of the city and chanted “disappear,” Reuters reports.

Footage from the local media shows how security forces wearing helmets or masks take protesters off the streets. According to a witness, the police had water cannons.

At least 10 people were arrested, according to the Russian state-controlled Tass news agency. The human rights group Spring-96 claims that at least 80 people were detained. The government generally publishes the final figure on arrests the next day.

After the protests Thousands of people have been imprisoned and many of them have testified that they have been tortured. However, the government has denied abuses against detainees.

As DN reported on Saturday, the women are tired of the violence and harassment by the masked men from Lukashenko’s security forces and have started to tear off their masks to show who they are. The idea is that they cannot escape responsibility for their actions.

In response to all the arrests, anonymous hackers leaked personal information about 1,000 police officers from the security forces on Saturday night.

“As long as the arrests continue, we will continue to publish information on a large scale. No one will remain anonymous, not even under a thief’s hat,” the pirates wrote in a statement via the opposition news channel Nexta Live on the Telegram application.

The protests continued in Minsk on Sunday.
