Favorite Johan Kristoffersson started well in the final as did Niclas Grönholm. Kristoffersson took the lead, but shortly after the start, Kristoffersson made a small mistake and Grönholm passed. Kristoffersson failed to pass and opted to take the wild card in the third round.
After the joker, Kristoffersson ate the lead from the leading cars and appeared to be in a good position before the decision.
When Grönholm collided with the wild card on the final lap, Kristoffersson had a chance to take the lead, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Grönholm slipped away just before Kristoffersson and at the last corner three cars drove together, Kristoffersson finished a bit off-balance and Grönholm took home the win.
– I kept calm and tried not to make mistakes. There were some mistakes, but they weren’t that big, says Grönholm.
For Kristoffersson, it ended up being a fourth place. Mattias Ekström finished second, a nice rematch for the Swede who was already eliminated in the semi-finals yesterday.
Despite losing the podium, Kristofersson leads the World Cup series with 111 points, 17 points ahead of Mattias Ekström.
Grönholm moved up to third place overall.
