Grim forecast from SMHI: “Almost no chance of sunshine”

It has been unusually gray in Sweden in recent weeks, with hardly any sun. And the gloomy weather looks set to continue, according to SMHI’s forecast.

The clear and cold Christmas weather was just a hiatus; now expect a shaky end of the year. On the second day, an area of precipitation enters and presses with soft air from the south.

– In the southern parts of the country, it will fall like rain and more like snow from north Svealand and over Norrland, says Alexandra Ohlsson.

The snow is expected to disappear

During Christmas Day, it snowed in some places, including Stockholm, where the police also urged motorists to be careful on the roads.

But the snow that has settled over eastern Svealand appears to be short-lived.

– It thaws and it rains on Sunday.

On its website, SMHI writes:

In Uppland, the snowy villages continue, but diminish at night when the wind dies down. On Saturday afternoon, an area with rain and snow is moving from the west across the country. In the Vänern landscape, rain can fall on cold road surfaces and cause a sudden ice slide. “

In the northwestern parts of Götaland, SMHI warns of a sudden ice slide since Saturday afternoon.

Difficult weather is getting wet

Sunday can also be difficult in parts of Norrland, with persistent snowfall and land winds along the shores of Västerbotten and Norrbotten.

At the beginning of next week the cold air that has been over the north of the country will soften. New areas of precipitation are also approaching.

“Unfortunately, mainly in the form of rain over Götaland and especially the southern parts of Svealand,” says Alexandra Ohlsson.

Anyone hoping for a bright New Year is likely to be disappointed.

– It won’t be a crystal clear New Year’s Eve. There will be a lot of clouds, also quite low at twelve o’clock. But those who intend to toast the New Year outdoors at least avoid frost, with temperatures close to zero in much of the country, says Alexandra Ohlsson.
